Holdin' on
I'm lucky enough to work for a small progressive publishing company and we are not bound by standard big-company conventions. This includes our hold music - the sounds played through the telephone system to those callers waiting on hold.

Earlier this year the boss decided that we should no longer pipe through the increasingly garbled bollocks from a certain radio station and instead use the netcast sounds of local groovers Totally Radio.

Generally a good idea, although occasionally the first thing that's heard when you take a call is 'What is that music?' after the caller has been subject to few minutes of Norwegian whale music. [And considering what some Norwegians do to whales...]

The 'What is that music?' calls were being discussed this afternoon and, as the man responsible for keeping the feed going, I checked to see what was playing at the time. All I could really hear was 'DIE, DIE, DIE, DIE, DIE' screamed over some pretty darned frantic thrash metal.

I thought I'd heard the song as 'Arse Star' by Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs [annoying 200K+ Flash download site] but it turns out to be 'Art Star'. Have a listen here. I'd have preferred 'Arse Star' but, hey, such is life.

Now being one of those dance music-types I haven't really indulged in any of this indie stuff for years but it was kinda fun for a moment. Apparently they are/were the 'next big thing' after The Strokes blah, blah, 'Who said punk rock was dead?' et-set-er-ah, et-set-er-ah. I'll have to ask my Indie Advisors what the deal is.

Not sure what the holders thought of it...

Well, after the rampant hit-fest* last week which was mainly generated by a link from Poprocks [thanks Jess!], getting linked to by other bloggers and finally sorting out the varying problems in actually getting this page to look like wot I wont it to, I should really get down to doing something with it all.

For the moment I'm still practicing and have yet to get into the daily habit. But, hey, I'm getting linked to by other extremely nice folks out there...damn, pressure's on now.

One thing I can promise though is lots of stuff about my current stamping ground, Brighton.

Weekend before last I was reminded why living in Brighton is so much fun. Friends were visiting & after the usual trundle along the seafront were just munching away on a late-afternoon snack & these guys turned up & started playing. It was their first visit to Brighton and they'd been flown over from Nice [France] to play at a wedding in Winchester the day before. Full set of pix here.

*OK, so it was a few hundred hits but in the life of this site that is reasonably rampant. I'm going to have to root out some new adjectives if the count ever goes 4-figure...
